PLAN IT WHILE THE WALLS ARE OPEN
A better basement starts behind the walls.
Electrical planning belongs near the start of a renovation. Before drywall closes in the framing, we can discuss how the space will be used and map out the wiring that supports it.
01 / LIGHT THE SPACE
Lighting with a plan
Recessed lighting, task lighting and dimmer locations planned around the room’s layout, ceiling and everyday use.
02 / PUT POWER IN REACH
Outlets where you need them
Think through desks, televisions, exercise equipment and furniture before choosing outlet and switch locations.
03 / PLAN FOR EQUIPMENT
The right circuits
Review circuit needs for the equipment you intend to add, including appliances, workshop tools or a mini-split.
From open framing to a finished room.
STEP 1
Talk through your layout
Share your plans, location and renovation timeline. Photos of the open framing and existing equipment can help start the conversation.
STEP 2
Define the electrical work
Review lighting, outlets, equipment loads, existing circuits and the permit or inspection requirements that apply to your project.
STEP 3
Coordinate the installation
Plan rough-in around the renovation schedule, then complete fixtures, switches and outlets when the room is ready for finish work.
Basement electrical questions
When should I bring in an electrician?
Early in the planning stage, ideally before insulation and drywall. That gives you more room to choose outlet locations, lighting and wiring routes.
Will I need permits or inspections?
Requirements depend on the location and scope of the work. We can review the electrical work and discuss the applicable requirements before it starts.
Can you work with my existing renovation plan?
Share the room layout and the equipment you want to use. We can review the electrical portion of the plan and coordinate next steps with the renovation.
What should I send to get started?
Your project address, a short description of the space, your planned uses and any available photos or drawings. Let us know whether the framing is open or the room is already finished.
